IntraConnect Processing of Session Fees
Your payment will be processed securely via encrypted practice management platform, Halaxy. We will collect your credit or debit card details prior to your first session and securely store them in Halaxy for ease of processing. All session fees must be paid on the day of the consultation. You will only be charged if you attend your session or our cancellation policy is enacted (see below). IntraConnect does not offer bulk billing.

Referral Options and Rebates

Mental Health Treatment Plan (Medicare)
To be eligible for a partial fee rebate through the Medicare Better Access scheme under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), you will require a referral from a General Practitioner (GP) or Psychiatrist. A MHTP allows you to receive a rebate of $96.65 per session (as at 01/07/2024) for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

The referring practitioner should provide you with:
(a) a referral letter addressed to Rebecca Hannan; and
(b) a copy of the Mental Health Care Plan.

Private Health Fund
You may be able to claim rebates through your Private Health Fund. Please check with your particular Health Fund to ascertain what/if they may provide rebates for Psychology services.

NDIS

Rebecca offers accessible support to clients with self-managed NDIS funding. Please contact Rebecca to discuss further.

Cancellations

IntraConnect does not like to charge for a missed session, particularly when the reason for not attending is genuine; however, previous trials have determined that the clinic cannot survive without doing so.

  • If 24-48 hours notice is provided for a cancellation/rescheduling, 50% of the session fee will be charged.

  • If 0-24 hours notice is provided for a cancellation/rescheduling (or in the case of non-attendance), 100% of the session fee will be charged.

A note on fees
We understand that the cost of private psychological support often acts as one of the barriers to people seeking individual therapy. In Australia, both the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPI) - the primary representative bodies for psychologists - recommend a fee of $311 for a 45-60-minute session, during the 2024/2025 financial year. Your psychologist has thoughtfully considered their fee, recognising its impact. Considering the limited funding for mental health support, your psychologist strives to balance providing quality care with the aim of offering affordable services.

Whilst fees can sound like a significant amount of money, the breakdown of therapy costs includes things like:

  • Education and Training: Psychologists undergo many years of rigorous education and training, this investment in education contributes to their expertise.

  • Ongoing Professional Development and Supervision: To stay current with the latest research and therapeutic techniques, psychologists engage in continuous professional development, requiring both time and financial resources.

  • Specialised Expertise: Within their specialised area, psychologists may also choose to develop additional skills in specific areas of interests ie. additional certifications, memberships, and sometimes specialised equipment.

  • Registration and Certification: Psychologists must obtain and maintain professional registration, adhering to strict ethical and professional standards. This involves a range of additional expenses including their own insurances, health practitioner registration, and other membership fees.

  • Preparation and Administrative Work: Psychologists commit substantial time outside of sessions to ensure personalised care, involving thorough preparation, note-taking, sending reports to GPs, and administrative duties such as scheduling, invoicing, email management, and marketing activities.

  • Overhead Costs: Running a private practice involves overhead costs such as rent for a consultation room, software memberships, administrative expenses, equipment, and utilities.

  • Time Off: Psychologists, like anyone else, need to take essential breaks for holidays and personal well-being, crucial to maintaining the quality of care provided. Those running their own private practice solely rely on session earnings and do not receive paid leave or sick/carers leave.

If cost is a concern for you, we encourage you to talk with your GP about this. They may have recommendations about other available low cost services.

Cultivating Well-being: Budgeting for Therapy

At IntraConnect, we champion the pursuit of optimal mental health, recognising it as a cornerstone of a fulfilling life. We understand that navigating the financial aspects of therapy can sometimes be a source of apprehension. This guide offers insightful strategies to help you effectively budget for therapy, ensuring your well-being flourishes alongside your financial security.

Investing in Your Flourishing: Therapy is not merely an expense; it’s an investment in your most valuable asset – yourself. By incorporating therapy into your financial plan, you acknowledge its significance as an essential pillar of self-care, fostering long-term well-being.

Enduring Dividends: While therapy may require an initial financial commitment, the dividends it yields can be life-altering. The positive changes it cultivates can extend to all aspects of your life, enriching your relationships, enhancing your work performance, and fostering a deeper sense of personal fulfilment.

Aligning Finances with Well-being: To create budgetary space for therapy, consider conducting a comprehensive review of your current financial landscape. This might involve re-evaluating spending habits, strategically reducing discretionary expenses, or reallocating resources from underutilised areas.

Harnessing Available Resources: Many private health insurance plans offer valuable mental health coverage. Carefully reviewing your policy can unlock resources that significantly lessen your out-of-pocket costs.

Maximizing Medicare Rebates: If you qualify for Medicare rebates for therapy sessions, consider a strategic approach. Opting to claim every second session, rather than each one, can extend the duration of your financial support while ensuring continued therapeutic progress.

Open Communication - A Pillar of Care: Don’t hesitate to have an open and honest conversation with your psychologist regarding cost concerns. They may be able to offer tailored suggestions, provide access to helpful resources, or explore alternative therapy options that align with your financial circumstances. Together, you can determine a frequency and duration of sessions that is both financially sustainable and supportive of your journey towards optimal well-being.

Investing in Yourself is Priceless: By taking a proactive approach to financial management and seeking guidance when necessary, you can ensure that therapy remains an integral part of your well-being journey.

At IntraConnect, we are dedicated to supporting you on your path to a life filled with mental clarity, emotional resilience, and lasting joy.
